365news gathered that the party’s leadership is believed to have reached an understanding with the PDP G5 governors, the crisis inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appeared to have been resolved.
Since being rejected as the PDP’s presidential candidate, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and a member of the PDP G5 Governors, has been at differences with Atiku.
The other PDP G5 Governors are Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. They are working with resentful PDP governors against Atiku.
In a move to reportedly diminish the North’s influence of the PDP, the G5 are also demanding Iyorchia Ayu’s resignation as party chairman.
They are also dissatisfied with Wike’s rejection by Atiku as his running mate.
However, there are indications that former military dictator General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida may have handled the problem affecting the main opposition party (rtd).
The G5 made fresh demands during the negotiations, which appeared to be successful.
According to an anonymous party insider, the G5 conceded to their new demands in exchange for agreeing to back Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee.
The dependable source reports that their requests are as follows: “That the top government positions be distributed among the six geopolitical zones;
“That if Atiku wins, all party offices in the South should move to the North and vice versa, and that the security chiefs should be distributed among all the geopolitical zones.”
