Within just three days of the new US administration led by President Donald Trump, authorities have started cracking down on illegal migrants, with hundreds of them been arrested and deported.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the arrest of 538 illegal immigrant criminals, including a suspected terrorist and several individuals convicted of sex crimes against minors.
“The largest massive deportation operation in history is well underway. Promises made. Promises kept,” she stated.
“The Trump Administration arrested 538 illegal immigrant criminals including a suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang, and several illegals convicted of sex crimes against minors,” she added.
In a series of posts on X on Thursday, Leavitt further said that deportation flights had commenced, with hundreds of migrants already deported by US military aircraft.
“President Donald Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States of America, you will face severe consequences,” she said.
The White House shared a “small preview” of the Trump administration’s efforts to “secure our nation’s borders,” listing the names of individuals arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The crimes committed by those arrested include rape, sexual conduct against a child, and continuous sexual abuse of a child aged 14 or younger.
On Wednesday, the Republican-led House passed a bill requiring the detention of unauthorised immigrants accused of theft and violent crimes. The legislation, which aligns with Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, marks the first bill he is set to sign, gaining some bipartisan support.
Additionally, Trump issued executive orders aimed at sealing the US-Mexico border and expediting the deportation of immigrants without permanent legal status. He also cancelled refugee resettlement and signalled plans to prosecute local law enforcement officials who fail to enforce his new immigration policies.
This comes after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Protecting the American People Against Invasion,” which highlights what it describes as an unprecedented surge of illegal immigration over the last four years. The order states, “Millions of illegal aliens crossed our borders or were permitted to fly directly into the United States on commercial flights and allowed to settle in American communities, in violation of longstanding Federal laws.”
It further adds that many of these “aliens unlawfully within the United States” pose significant “threats to national security and public safety,” committing “vile and heinous acts against innocent Americans.”
