365NEWS gathered that A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Osun State, Barrister Kayode Oduoye, has led thousands of his supporters across the state in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oduoye, who competed for the PDP governorship ticket in 2018 alongside Governor Ademola Adeleke, had previously submitted his resignation from the party to his ward 03 on August 23, 2024.
During a reception in Ikirun, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, described Oduoye and his supporters’ move to the APC as a significant milestone for the state.
The Minister, represented by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, expressed his satisfaction with the large number of defectors who joined the party, recognizing APC’s track record of substantial development.
“I am very happy to formally receive Kayode Oduoye, popularly known as Super Kay, and his followers.
Oduoye is a notable politician not just in Ikirun but across the entire state. His political career has been both impactful and rewarding. With his addition, our party has further strengthened in the Ifelodun Federal Constituency,” Oyetola said.
He also urged the new members to work together for the good of the party and to begin mobilizing people in their respective wards and local government areas as the party prepares for future elections.
Earlier, the APC Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, praised the defectors for their courageous decision to join a progressive party that understands the true meaning of politics and governance. He encouraged them to collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve unity.
On behalf of his supporters, Oduoye explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by the party’s democratic principles and internal democracy, which guide its engagement with loyalists. He pledged to work in unity with others to strengthen the party and achieve electoral success.
