365NEWS has learned that the Adamawa State Government has commenced the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage to its workers.
According to DAILY POST, this month’s salary was disbursed on Friday, August 23, aligning with the state government’s usual payday on the 23rd of every month.
The payment of the N70,000 minimum wage fulfills Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s promise that the new wage would take effect this month.
Civil servant Amos Tumba confirmed the increase, stating, “I can confirm that the salary increase has been implemented, and I received it.”
Another government worker, Amma Yohanna, added, “Yes, they have paid, and it’s the new package.”
The possibility of the new minimum wage being paid in August was hinted at earlier in the week, on Monday, August 19, when Governor Fintiri assured visiting labor leaders that the new wage would be implemented.
This assurance was later conveyed to reporters by the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe, following a closed-door meeting at Government House, Yola. Fashe also noted that while state government workers would receive the new minimum wage this month, local government employees would begin receiving it next month, in September 2024.
