365NEWS has learned that a fully loaded Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus overturned on its side within the dedicated BRT lane along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway near Iyana-Ipaja.
The accident, which occurred earlier on Friday, resulted in 10 injuries, according to a report by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on X. The incident took place around 7:45 am.
LASTMA, the agency responsible for managing traffic and enforcing traffic laws in Lagos State, stated, “A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane (BRT lane) with 10 casualties. The victims received immediate care.”
Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene to provide medical assistance and transport the injured to nearby healthcare facilities. Further details about the cause of the accident and the condition of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while navigating the area.
In another incident, the agency reported that a loaded truck fell at Durbar Junction on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, completely blocking the road towards Alakija. The accident has caused significant traffic disruptions, with vehicles being diverted through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar.
Motorists are advised to follow the diversion and exercise patience as efforts continue to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic flow.
In a post, LASTMA stated, “[7:22 AM] #LagBadgryExp #DurbarJunction #AccidentReport There is a fallen loaded truck at Durbar junction inward Alakija that took 100% of the road. Traffic has been diverted through the service lane from Orile heading towards Durbar. Efforts are ongoing to evacuate it from the road, and our men are in position to monitor the situation. Transloading of contents in the fallen truck is currently ongoing. We apologize for the inconvenience. #LASTMAcares.”
Additionally, LASTMA reported a road crash involving two vehicles opposite Northwest, heading inward Ajah. The accident, attributed to over-speeding, resulted in one injured victim.
