365NEWS gathered that no fewer than four people have lost their lives while another four were injured on Sunday in an accident that occurred at about 12:40 p.m. around MRI, Mosimi along the Sagamu-Ogijo-Ikorodu area of Ogun State.
The crash involved a wine-coloured Toyota Sienna bus with registration number LND945EL and a white convoy bus with registration number AKD232XV.
The fatal crash was blamed on wrongful overtaking and excessive speeding, leading to a head-on collision of the two vehicles.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe revealed this in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday.
The injured were said to have been taken to the Dasochris Hospital at Gbaga, Ogijo, while the relatives of the dead were said to have come around to claim their corpses for burial.
The statement partly read, “Rescue operation was carried out today, Sunday, 26th May 2024, by a team from FRSC Mosimi Unit Command at MRI on a crash that occurred at about 1240 hrs.
“The crash involved two vehicles with the following details:
wine Toyota Sienna with registration number LND945EL and a white Convoy Bus with registration number AKD232XV.
“Eight people were involved in the crash. Six male adults, one female adult and one female child.”
Okpe said that the four deceased included two male adults, one female adult and one female child while four male adults were injured.
“The injured victims were taken to Dasochris Hospital, Gbaga, Ogijo, while the family took custody of the corpses.
“The suspected causes of the crash were speed and wrongful overtaking which led to the rear collision of the two vehicles,” the statement added.
The Sector Commander, Ogun Sector Command, Anthony Uga has sympathised with the families of the crash victims.
Uga advised motorists to desist from overspeeding and give total attention to driving, as it is very important to be sure of when to overtake and not at will.
He further urged motorists to ensure road markings on overtaking are obeyed.
