Daily Post Nigeria (dailypost.ng), a premium leading newspaper, is looking to employ experienced community journalists.
An applicant is expected to have experience in local or grassroots news. Intending applicants must be familiar with grassroots politics, festivals, communal crises, and other related issues in local communities.
Local news is not only a trusted source of critical information but an undiluted ingredient for a healthy democracy and progressive society.
Because community and local news enhance civic engagement, social cohesion and solve problems effectively, it has become paramount to search deeply into communities to pick individuals who have eyes for details and are committed to news at the local level.This will help us track and curate news accurately from the local level.
It’s for this reason that we call for submission of applications by those who have the competence to make local news stronger and sustainable in order to attain the expected turn-around in local communities.
Candidates who wish to apply must:
Possess a Bachelor’s Degree, its equivalent or National Diploma in Journalism or Mass Communications.
Understand the ethical foundations of journalism, and apply them accordingly.
Possess interest in local and community news with, be ready to work under pressure and possess the ability to meet deadlines.
Have what it takes to interview and engage local politicians and activists for content purposes.
Be ready to stick to company editorial policies and cooperate with his or her editor(s)
Possess the ability to work in a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
Have eyes for critical reports from trusted sources at the local level.
Be able to scrutinize activities of individuals and government at the grassroots, enlighten communities through human angle news by focusing on community health, sanitation, projects, legislations, taxes, crimes, politics and education.
Successful applicants are expected to work remotely.
