365NEWS gathered that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Thursday, appointed Yetunde Oni, as the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Union Bank of Nigeria.
Her appointment came hours after the CBN Governor, Dr Yemi Cardoso, dissolved the boards and managements of Union Bank of Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and Polaris Bank.
The three banks’ leaders were sacked over alleged corporate governance infractions and non-compliance with regulatory requirements, among others.
On Thursday morning, a statement by the apex bank’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Sidi Hakama, disclosed the appointment takes immediate effect.
The statement said Yetunde Oni, the first female CEO of the Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank.
She would take over from the former CEO of the bank, Mudassir Amray,
Here are a few things about Yetunde Oni, the new Union Bank’s CEO.
Yetunde Oni graduated from the University of Ibadan, where she bagged a degree in Economics in 1991.
In 2016, she had Executive Training at Oxford University, and the following year in 2017, she proceeded to INSEAD, the Business School for the World for another Executive Training.
Yetunde Oni, then, obtained a Master of Business Administration, MBA, from Bangor University, Wales, in 2020.
In 1994, she joined Ecobank Nigeria as a Relationship Manager in the Institutional Banking Group till 2005.
She joined Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, in 2005, assuming the role of Senior Account Relationship Manager in the Local corporations segment.
Yetunde Oni was later transferred to the Apapa Branch where she was saddled with the dual responsibility of Wholesale Banking Branch Head and the development of the Bank’s Local corporate portfolio in the Apapa and Ogun State Region.
In May 2010, she was appointed Head of Local Corporates.
Yetunde Oni later became the Managing Director & Country Head of Commercial Banking in West Africa for Standard Chartered Bank, from 2014 to January 2021.
Prior to her latest appointment as the CEO of Union Bank, she operated as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone, a position she took in January 2021.
