According to a press release signed and sent to local media in Gusau by State Police Spokesman S P Mohammed Shehu, police officers and a vigilante group acted after receiving information about the kidnapping of the six ladies and the child.
“The Police operatives mobilized to the location where a search and rescue operation was conducted along Zurmi – Jibiya axis, leading to the unconditional rescue of all the victims unhurt”, he added.
“The victims were taken to the hospital for a medical check, debriefed by the Police detectives and handed over their families”
Shehu reported that Mr. Kolo Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police, praised the police officers and the vigilante group for the successful rescue effort and expressed his gratitude to the victims for recovering their freedom.
The statement claims that the commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s ongoing commitment to rooting out criminal activity throughout the state and capturing criminal elements responsible for horrible acts there.
The Commissioner then made a plea to the populace to provide the security services with crucial data that could result in the State’s long-term peace being restored.
However, he gave the assurance that all sensitive material will be handled in secrecy.
