365news gathered that Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, acknowledged that it would be difficult for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to defeat Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, in 2023.
This was said by El-Rufai on Friday during the send-off and memorial ceremony for Nteranya Sanginga, the departing director-general of the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
The Kaduna governor, however, asserted that while the APC will make every effort to topple Makinde, it would be difficult because of his capable leadership.
Both governors described how, in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic, they disagreed on whether to lock down their states during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
“After that debate, I went back to my state and I locked it down. Seyi (Makinde) went back to his state and did a partial lockdown. But he locked himself down because he got COVID.
“In my state, I did what I felt was the right thing and he did what was best for his state.
“We’ll do our best to defeat you. But I know it will be tough because you have been a good governor,” El-Rufai said.
