365news gathered that Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, the speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has been impeached.
After only six days in office, Aribisogan was removed from his position.
17 parliamentarians voted to impeach him and place him on indefinite leave of absence for obstructing the adoption of the 2022 Supplementary Appropriations Bill.
At a plenary meeting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, Aribisogan was immediately replaced by the Assembly Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba of the Emure Constituency, who was unanimously elected new Speaker by all 17 lawmakers present.
Mrs. Adelugba was then given the oath of office and the pledge of allegiance, making her the first female Speaker of the Assembly since democracy was restored in 1999.
