365NEWS Gathered that In Ede, Ede South Local Government Area, Osun State, another five shops with goods worth millions of Naira have been destroyed by fire, less than 72 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,office was razed with fire.
At the Tomori compound, “ode kè,” directly across from St. Peter’s Anglican Primary Church, were the shuttered businesses.
According to an eyewitness account, the fire outbreak started in the middle of the night around 12 midnight of Saturday.
The eyewitness said he suspected that the fire started immediately IBEDC restored electricity to Cottage feeder.
He further explained that nobody was aware since the shops were locked up.
He said they were alerted by motorcycle riders who saw smoke coming out around the building.
“Effort to get the fire fighters at their Ọjà Timi station to arrest the situation was abortive as they told us no equipment is available” he said.
Reacting on the incident, Com Abdulazeez Mufutaudeen Idowu, National President of the Federation of Ede Youth Development Association said in a statement “Men of Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, Amotekun were on ground and all assisted in stopping the fire from getting to another building, but unfortunately goods worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
“Tailor/fabric seller, Hairdresser, Aluminium fabricator, “Worobo seller” are among occupiers of those shops.
Appealing to the Governor Gboyega Oyetola led government, the FEYDA National President said “We are using this medium to appeal to the state government to adequately equip the fire station in Ede and across the state in order to guide against loss of property to inferno, most especially during this dry season.
“Also, we appreciate the security men who were on night patrol but stopped to assist in quenching the fire.”
